Because Practice Makes Perfect

Simulation and Skills Labs

"Medical education does not exist to provide students with a way of making a living, but to ensure the health of the community"

The Seeger Sim Lab

This state of the art lab is maintained by BUMC and is available to residents 24 hours a day. We have access to training simulators for laparoscopy, endoscopy, endovascular intervention, line placement, ultrasound, and robotic surgery. Our sim lab staff also administer the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) and Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) exams on site.

Our teaching faculty host sessions throughout the year focusing on a variety of skills. These training sessions are geared towards junior and senior residents separately, so everyone gets maximum benefit.

Baylor Operative Skills Simulation (BOSS) Lab

"Hic locus est ubi mors gaudet succurrere vitae"

The BOSS lab is a well equipped surgical lab where residents can learn and practice skills on cadavers. We're set up for both laparoscopic and open surgical simulations, and residents get multiple opportunities annually to take part in skills labs.

Intern Skills Labs

Throughout intern year, our interns spend monthly sessions working one of our senior general surgeons. They get one on one instruction on basic surgical skills such as suturing and knot tying, as well as laparoscopic skills.
